Jordi Alba expects tough challenge against Guangzhou Evergrande

The Catalan defender refuses to comment on the Club World Cup Final. FC Barcelona need to beat the Asian champions first

Jordi Alba spoke to the press after the second training session in Yokohama, but there was one subject he refused to discuss, and that’s the Club World Cup Final on Sunday. He knows full well that before Barça can start thinking about that game, they need to make sure they’re going to be in it. And to do that, they’ll need to beat Guangzhou Evergrande of China in Thursday’s semi-final. “It won’t be easy to qualify” says the Catalan defender. “I’m sure they’re going to make things very difficult for us.”

“We have to carry on doing the same things we have been doing in La Liga, the Champions League and in the Copa del Rey” he continued. “The season has obviously gone well for us so far, but we did miss out on the Spanish Super Cup. Now we want to win the world title. It’s a very short competition, but a very attractive one too.”

Jordi Alba also commented on how the players are gradually getting over their jetlag, and on how the Club World Cup is a brand new experience for all but seven members of the current squad. “I haven’t won this one” he said. “And like everybody else who has come here, I want to win it. It’s important.”
