A prolific year for Pedri, Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy winner

This year the young midfielder from the Canary Islands took two important individual awards to round off a splendid 12 months as a blaugrana

The year 2021 has been a golden one for Pedri. The midfielder has shown that his time has come, winning the Golden Boy award and the Kopa Trophy, two prizes that serve to underlines his youthful talent.

His first full season as a blaugrana, 2020/21, was nothing short of sublime. Despite injury problems in his second campaign at FC Barcelona, the midfielder has still impressed with his performances. Pedri was part of the Copa del Rey winning squad in 2021 and in the summer he shone on the international stage, being included in the best XI from the 2020 European Championships and in the Tokyo Olympics where he claimed a silver medal with the Spanish national side. To round things off he claimed the Golden Boy award, given out by Italian newspaper Tuttosport and the Kopa Trophy from the magazine France Football, two prizes given to the best player under the age of 21.

The player from the Canary Islands soon became a fixture in the Barça side in the 2020/21 seasons, making 52 appearances, more than any other player. Including games with the Spanish national side he ended the season having played 73 games, a figure unmatched for the campaign.

So, 2021 has been a great year for Pedro González López, the only player to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or, Golden Boy and the Kopa Trophy, a feat only within the grasp of the precociously talented.
